Stan Vance

It was like a kick in the gut when I heard Larry had passed away. Our relationship was such that we didn't have to talk often to know the depth of our friendship. Back in the day we were running buddies. Most times it was good running, but other times we were partners in crime so to speak. Larry was a big man, but what some people don't know is that Larry had a big heart. Very generous and caring. He was at times spontaneous and funny. I also believe he was oftentimes misunderstood. The last time I saw Larry was at his barn when he gave me a bunch of his hunting stuff as he was getting out of the hunting sport to get more involved in fishing. On that occasion I got to share my testimony with him and he was genuinely glad for me. Years ago when we were hunting together even though he was a big man he had a high metabolism and could walk at a fast pace. I found myself having to walk really fast just to keep up with him. Only one time in all the years I knew Larry did we have a "dust up". It was on a hunting trip and as I look back on it, it was probably more my fault than his. He got a little mad at me and we barely spoke on the way home. But we got over it and stayed friends during our entire career at the S.O. and beyond. I will miss Larry and think of him for the rest of my days. I could have called him up and he would listen to me and we would catch up and he was interested in what was going on in my life. It's always hard when a friend dies because it's almost like a little bit of you dies with them. I sincerely hope in Larry's last days he found peace and was happy. I'll never forget his smile and hearty laugh. I'll never forget the memories we made, both good and bad. I'll never forget his certain ways and style. But most of all I'll never forget him.
