Finley, John P. Age 72, Dayton, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on August 10, 1946 in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late Donald and Mary Elinor Price Finley. John attended the Dayton Art Institute, and remained in the Dayton area to pursue his graphic design and advertising career. He was an amazing painter, sculptor, drawer, woodworker and stained-glass artist. He loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, discovering new restaurants, vintage cars, and was one of the best storytellers around. He had a unique, dry and witty sense of humor and always told it like it was. John is preceded in death by his late brother, Dr. James R. Finley of Columbus, Ohio, and his sister Charlotte Callihan of McConnelsville, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joann Finley, son Stanton P. Finley (Tammy Helman) of Dayton, Ohio, daughter Rachel (David) Gealy of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and two grandchildren Kara and Matthew of Fort Wayne, Indiana. John is also survived by brothers Donald Eugene (Dixie) Finley of Bellefontaine, Ohio, Paul (Michelle) Finley of Lancaster, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. A private memorial reception will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Dayton, or the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. John was a keen observer of life, culture, people and situations and we will miss him dearly. Online memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.bakerhazelsnider.com
