SIEBENTHALER, Robert K., “Bob” age 89 of Dayton, died Wednesday, October 3, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan D. (Darby) Siebenthaler in 2012, parents Clarence and Katherine Siebenthaler, and a sister Nancy Barber. Survived by daughter Laura “Laurie” Siebenthaler Fanning of Dayton and Rob, son Robert Jeffrey “Jeff” Siebenthaler of Dayton and Amy, 5 grandchildren Jeremy (Megan) Fanning of Dublin, OH, Colin Fanning of Centerville and Kelsey. Robert (Britton) Siebenthaler of Dayton, Katherine (Michael) Coughlin of Dublin, OH, Daniel Siebenthaler of Chicago and their mother Susan, and 9 great grandchildren. He was a proud graduate of Fairview High School and a US Korean War veteran. Bob was the 60th recipient of the Citizen Legion of Honor Award given by the President’s Club of Dayton in 2010, to recognize his volunteer service in our region. Bob is the fourth generation of a Swiss-German family who came to Dayton in the 1860’s and started the Siebenthaler Nursery in 1870. Throughout his career Bob has received many awards which include; Distinguished Outstanding Horticulturist, National Landscape Association Hall of Fame, Resolution by Park Commissioners for 21 years distinguished service to Miami Valley Five River MetroParks, Dayton Rotary in Recognition of Service Award, and the Award for Beavercreek Wetland Association. Bob has served as President of the Ohio Nurserymans Association, National Landscape Association Board, and Dayton Rotary 1988-1989, (a member since 1953) and served on the board of the Horticultural Research Institute. He is a charter member of Dayton City Beautiful Commission, has spent more than 20 years with Five River MetroParks. He was Emeritus on the Salvation Army Board, as well as the Boards of Shiloh Park Cemetery and Aullwood. Bob is an alumnus of the Michigan State University where he received his degree in Landscape Architecture. He was a member of the Dayton Junto Club, The Forty Niners Club and S.A.E. Fraternity at Michigan State. At the family’s convenience, a private interment will be held at Shiloh Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and celebrate Bob’s life on Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Miami Valley Golf Club 3311 Salem Ave. in Dayton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Five River MetroParks Foundation in Bob’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home.
