Trip Home Cody's Deplymnt

Cody  had  just  been deployed to Afghanastan, we were on  our way home, just me & Dad,  We stopped to  get breakfast, Rick had called to say, we shouldn't stop, there was a big snow storm coming  thru West Virginia.  Dad   didn't think it was a problem, & he wanted something to eat.  We ate, and started on our way!   It was beginning to rain/mist, when we began entering thru the 1st tunnel.  As we were coming to the end of the tunnel, Dad said  "Whoa, it looks pretty foggy on the other side!"    Of course, it was not fog, it was SNOW, and alot of it.  The  further we went, the deeper the snow got.   Traffic was  at a snails pace, unti it was almost stopped.  Small cars couldn't make it  up the hill.  Semi's were sliding back down.  I was drivng!  Dads calmness was amazing.  My heart was racing!  Dad kept telling me, "Whatever you do, don't stop!"    My car sat low, &  the wipers were not  keeping up. Dad  still calm. We couldn't see anything.     He said, "I think there should be an exit up here somewere, get off at that exit, we've stayed there before"  I didn't have a clue where we were.   The traffic  was so slow,  and each car was so close to the next, he told me to sneak in as best as I  could to get off!  I'm thinking,"What the heck, how am I going to do this?"  Dad still calm.  I make my way over, don't know how, but I did. The motel was at that exit, but it also was up on a hill. He told me to keep th car movng, and gas it. we made it up there, got the last room available.  Once in the room, he said, " I don't know how you did that, I couldn't have done it better myself.  I was worried!"  I would never have guessed that!  That night, all the parking lots around  were full, with semi's back to back.  the streets were lined, the highway was lined with cars that hadn't made it.   But that was a trip, I'll never forget. Just me & my Dad!  Rest in Peace Dad,    I Love You, Robyne
