A gift to me!

We knew Kay and Moe from St. Rita's. We saw them at Mass and church gatherings, but never 'ran around' together. I share that because you didn't need to spend a lot of time with them to appreciate their friendship (and quiet wisdom). Many years ago, when Kay and I were talking after Mass one Sunday (about 10-12 of us were always the last to leave after church, and we would hear Moe call from the sacristy, "I'm turning out the lights!"). One of those days I had shared with Kay that my first daughter, Janet, had leukemia, and had died when she was only 5 years old. Kay said she was so sorry, and asked how I got thru that time. I gave her the same answer I always gave, "Well, somehow I just kept going ...... I really didn't have any other choice.". Kay looked at me with that familiar direct look and said, "Oh, yes you did Sue! You had several choices, and you made the choice to keep going! That must have been really hard.......Good for you!". I thought about that for several days and it felt really good! For the first time, I realized that I did have other choices then, and that somehow in the middle of all that sorrow and pain, I did something very right. I thanked Kay later, but I don't think she ever realized what a gift she gave me that day! Even now, when I'm talking with someone, and they mention getting thru a very difficult time in the past, 'because they really didn't have any other choice'............. I respond............"Oh yes you did! You had several choices, and you made the choice to keep going! That must have been really hard! Good for you!". When appropriate, I share how a special lady told me that very same thing many years ago, and suggest that they too pass it on, if, and when, the time is right. I'm sure this is only one of MANY stories of how Kay will continue to touch people's lives! So thankful Kay (and Moe too) are part of our lives. May each of you also be blessed by knowing Kay's Lord!
