Herman Ralph Romeiser, one of the last remaining of The Greatest Generation, died in his sleep at home early Sunday morning, November 5, 2017 at the age of 95. He was born in Union City, Indiana on May 10, 1922 to Herman and Maude (Frank) Romeiser. He was a dutiful son, a devoted brother, a dedicated employee and church leader, a patriot serving in the Army during World War II, a loving husband and father
.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn Smith Romeiser, his 11 high school monthly lunch buddies, and his loving companion for 7 years, Elaine Umstead. He is survived by his beloved sister, Janet Popp; his 3 daughters: Lynne Romeiser, Paula Heeter (Mike Bly); Joanie (Dan) Schilling, and son Robert (Michelle) Romeiser; grandchildren, Luke (Trisha) Heeter and Cody (Lauren) Heeter, Benjamin Schilling (Abbey) and Rachel Schilling (Aaron), Zachary Romeiser and Madison Romeiser; great-grandchildren Braxtyn and Leo Romeiser and their mother Taylor Law; sister-in-law Lillian Smith; several nieces and nephews and friends.

Herman had a strong work ethic and sense of integrity. Even when he felt undeserving, he was often asked to step up and take on more responsibility. Whether it was rising through the ranks in the army, being promoted during his 37 years at NCR, being asked to serve as President of his congregation of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, working as a realtor and real estate appraiser for Hussman Realty, he never felt deserving of accolades. He would often go out of his way to help a neighbor or friend.
Herman was a walking miracle over the last 22 years when after suffering a massive heart attack, he was given about five years to live. He was so very dedicated to taking care of his daughter Lynne and so proud when she then was able to be his caregiver and homemaker in the recent years of his life.

Visitation is Nov. 8, 2017, 5–8 p.m. and Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. followed by a service 11 a.m. (all at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home). Interment to follow at Dayton Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may go to Fairview UMC 828 West Fairview Ave
