Nancy Ellen Williamson Enochs, 86 of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of A.D. and Emily Evans Williamson and the loving, devoted wife to James T. Enochs, M.D. Nancy was born in Chicago, IL on December 11, 1930 at Presbyterian Hospital, and the attending physician was Dr. Noble Sproat Heaney, a pioneer in
obstetrical medicine.
Nancy attended Longfellow Elementary School and graduated from Fairview High School in 1948. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1952 and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Upon graduation, she returned to Dayton and taught 2nd grade at Longfellow Elementary.
On June 20, 1953 she married her high school sweetheart James T. Enochs, MD. Their first date was on Valentine’s Day 1946, and they had a lifelong love affair for 71 years. After living in Dayton, OH, Cincinnati, OH, Ferndale, MI, two years at FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY, West Liberty, OH and Detroit, MI. They finally settled in Parma, OH for 27 years to raise their family.
During those years, she was an amazing homemaker, raising three children, 4 dogs, and various other critters, while serving as an auxiliary volunteer at Parma Community General Hospital, a Girl Scout leader, an Elder at Parma South Presbyterian church and a docent at the Cleveland Historical Society. She loved to entertain in her home and was a superb cook and gracious hostess. Nancy also belonged to a bridge club, sewing club and loved to play tennis and golf. She also had a life-long love of reading, learning and the classical arts. She enjoyed the Symphony and live theatre, having played the piano for 16 years. Nancy and Jim perfected their ballroom dancing and were a joy to watch gliding across the dance floor. They spent their retirement years in Scottsdale, AZ, a place she always felt was paradise and where the sunshine brought her happiness. Their final move was to Charlotte, NC in 2002 to be closer to family.
Nancy is survived by her husband Jim, son W. Scott Enochs, MD., PhD and wife Connie, their 3 children Warren Haskins, James Trevor, Amy Elizabeth and her husband Mitchell King; daughter Cynthia Ann Enochs and her 3 children Andrew Kirby Dunn, Garrett Lawrence Dunn, Alyssa Evans Dunn; and daughter Carolyn Enochs Mance, husband Terry and daughter Emily Jordan Mance.
The family of Nancy Enochs would like to especially thank all the wonderfully compassionate and kind caregivers at CMC Pineville Hospital and SouthMinster Hospice, whose dedicated and loving care provided her great comfort and peace during the final days. They also thank Legacy Heights Memory Care, which was her home for the past 3 years.
