Vivian J.  Nelson (Carson)
NELSON, Vivian J., (Carson), age 90 of Dayton, died Monday, June 13, 2016. She was born in Washington Court House, Ohio, August 17, 1925. Preceded in death by parents Leroy and Opal Michael Carson, an infant brother Bobby Gene and her husband Floyd W. Nelson. She attended Edward Lee McClain High School in Greenfield, OH, graduating in 1943. Through government wartime recruitment at high schools, Vivian attended Miami Jacobs Business College in Dayton, prior to employment at Air Material Command at WPAFB. In March of 1944, she entered Nurses training at St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, through the United States Army Cadet Nurse Corps, as a Government training program for wartime nurses. She graduated in 1947 and because the war was over it was not required to serve in the military. She worked as a RN in Mental Health at St. Elizabeth and Miami Valley Hospitals before becoming an Occupational Health Nurse. Vivian was a nurse at Sunshine Biscuit Co. from 1966 to 1972, then at Delco Products, from 1972 to 1986 as a Certified Occupational Health Nurse. During retirement she was very active in the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Chapter # 7 in Dayton, as spouse member in 1991 and then Secretary in 1994. She was a Life member of VFW Post # 9927, Kettering, Ohio Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by a son Keith W. Nelson, a daughter Judy (Ed) Lobingier grandson Aaron Dominic Lobingier. Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home 5555 Philadelphia Dr. at N. Main St. Interment Shiloh Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 p.m. until time of services. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Courtyard Park at Bethany Village for the loving care Vivian received the past four years and to the Ohio Hospice of Dayton for the care she received from their staff in the final days of her life.
