Condolence: Reading the messages above have brought a smile to my face today. I also have wonderful memories of growing up in Marys dance studio. I started so young I felt like Mary was part of my family, she made a major infuence in my life. Thank you Mary for all the wonderful memories! And yes moving to Wednesday night classes with the big girls and wearing the high heel tap shoes was a big deal!

Condolence: We are very sad to hear the passing of Mary Hiatt. My twin sister and I took dance class from her in the mid80´s and 90´s. I loved every minute of it and miss those days dearly. Mary was an excellent dance teacher and taught me so much! I am thankful to her for all the wonderful memories. She was a wonderful woman.

Condolence: Mary was an inspiration. She was a good friend of my parents and like a second mother to me for over ten years. Her direction, guidance, and love made it possible for me to have a career in the arts that led to performing all over Europe as well as gaining a master´s degree. Mary was the consummate teacher giving to each child individually what they needed through sharing her love of dance. Mary shared her heartbeats with her students and changed lives. She will be a treasured memory.

Condolence: I was very sad to hear of Mary´s passing. My sisters and I (The Cotton girls: Melody, Pam, Angie, Gloria, and myself Teresa), as well as a niece, Alicia (many years later), took dance from Mary for many, many years, all through our childhood. I think of her often, remembering the good times in her studios and at the recitals. She was a wonderful teacher and she will be missed.

Condolence From: Patricia (Patty Shay) Smith
Condolence: Mary will be greatly missed. I was one of her student teachers. I helped both in Dayton and Centerville. I was one of the Hiatt-etts and was co-captain one year. When I was young I could hardly wait until I was old enough to move to Wednesday night classes (in Dayton) with the big girls and wear the silver high heel tap shoes and dance on toe in ballet. I started classes when the studio was downtown and remember thinking how small the new studio was when she moved. The new studio however was within walking distance to my house. My mother was one of the back stage moms and I remember her making my costumes for my private classes.

I look back on those days and they always bring a smile to my face, even the embarrassing moments. One memory was when we were at a nursing home performing. I was doing my solo hula dance when my skirt started to fall. I kept tugging at it as I continued to dance. I was so relieved when the part came where I could kneel and do the hand motion on my knees. However when I stood up to finish my dance my skirt ended up down around my ankles. I finished my dance and ran off the stage. Thank you for instilling in me the quality needed to continue what I started even in adversity.
